Veriva Compass
Travel that gives back
Veriva is the first English-language magazine for regenerative tourism — born from the conviction that travel can not only visit the world, but leave it in a better place.
Regenerative
Tourism that strengthens places, people and ecosystems instead of burdening them.
Curated
Every accommodation, every story, every partner — personally vetted.
Honestly
No advertising from the editorial team, no recommendation without conviction
Connecting
Between travelers, local providers, and the places themselves
How Veriva came to be
From a question that
wouldn't let go
Why does travel so often feel like consumption — and so rarely like encounter?
This question has stayed with me for years. As a traveler, as a mother, as someone who loves the world and at the same time wondered what that actually means — for the places, the people, the cultures we visit.
Veriva is the answer I was looking for: a magazine that doesn’t treat regenerative tourism as a niche topic, but as what it is— the future of travel. Curated, honest, and with conviction.
Behind Veriva is me, Laetitia — as founder, editor and traveler who believes that the most beautiful journeys are those where you give back what you take.
Our approach
How we work — and why that's important
No accommodations that I haven’t personally visited or verified through trusted partners make it into The Collection. No pay-to-play, no favors. Only properties I stand behind.
Veriva clearly separates editorial content from partnerships. Those mentioned in the magazine are there because they deserve it—not because they pay. Transparency is not an extra, but a fundamental principle.
Veriva views travel as an ecosystem: accommodations, travel designers, DMCs, local providers, and travelers all belong together. We create the connections that make regenerative tourism possible.
The Founder
Laetitia Hörnler
Laetitia Hörnler has spent twenty years at the intersection of journalism, hospitality, and the uncomfortable question that sits between them: what happens when the story a hotel tells about itself is not the same as the truth?
She studied at the University of Cambridge, then built a career that moved deliberately through every layer of the travel industry — writing for GEO and Connoisseur Circle, advising hotels on communications, selling media to a hospitality industry she was learning to read critically. In 2018 she founded Mamis Travelguide, a travel platform for discerning families that gave her a different perspective still: what travellers actually need when they are trying to find places that are genuinely worth their time and trust.
What she kept seeing, from every angle, was the same gap. Hotels doing extraordinary work — regenerating ecosystems, rebuilding communities, keeping cultures alive — invisible to the travellers who would have sought them out. And hotels telling beautiful sustainability stories without the independent verification to back them up.
Veriva is her answer to that gap.
Based in Munich, Laetitia is a GSTC Organisation Member and has built Veriva’s methodology in collaboration with leading academics in regenerative hospitality.
She believes that the most important thing a travel platform can do is tell the truth — including the gaps.

"Regenerative tourism doesn't mean traveling less. It means traveling more consciously — with the goal that the places we love become more , not less, through our presence."

How Veriva Embodies
Its Own Compass
The Compass Assessment measures four pillars: Ecological Restoration, Operational Circularity, Cultural Integrity, and Community Benefit. Rather than treating this framework as something we hand to others, we’ve committed to embodying each pillar in how Veriva itself operates — knowing that we, too, are at the start of this path, not the end of it.
Veriva was built on a simple conviction: regenerative hospitality claims only mean something when they’re backed by evidence — and that standard has to start with us.
Ecological Restoration
Community-owned conservancies sit at the heart of regenerative tourism, often protecting vast landscapes with minimal resources. That’s why Veriva offers the Compass Assessment at no cost to lodges that are genuinely community-owned and tied to conservation — places like Il Ngwesi, Sarara, Grootberg, and Bulungula. These properties don’t just operate sustainably; their ownership structure is the conservation model. Removing the cost barrier for them isn’t charity — it’s recognition that the verification infrastructure we’re building should serve the operators doing this work, not just the ones who can afford to pay for it first.
Community Benefit
We support Circular Munich e.V., an organisation working to reduce food waste in the hospitality and gastronomy sector. Food waste is one of the most overlooked sustainability failures in hospitality — and one of the most fixable. Backing local, on-the-ground work to change food systems keeps Veriva grounded in the communities where it operates, not just the destinations it assesses.
Cultural Integrity
Veriva is a Fördermitglied of the Bayerischer Landesverein für Heimatpflege e.V., an organisation dedicated to preserving Bavarian cultural heritage and local tradition. Operating from Munich, we see cultural stewardship as something that starts at home — supporting the institutions that safeguard regional identity and craft, not only writing about culture as a category in someone else’s assessment.
Operational Circularity
Operational circularity starts with infrastructure choices, not just business models. Our office runs on solar energy, and our digital infrastructure is hosted with Infomaniak, a Swiss provider that runs its entire operation on 100% certified renewable electricity and operates some of the most energy-efficient data centers in the world. These are small decisions in absolute terms — but they’re the same kind of decisions we ask our partners to make visible and accountable.
We're also honest about where we stand: Veriva is at the very beginning of this journey, not the end of it. These four steps are a starting point, not a finished picture of what regenerative means for us. Our goal is to keep building on them — becoming more regenerative over time, in the same way we ask our partners to keep progressing along their own maturity curve.
